When you're a new mum everything can feel overwhelming and one of the big stumbling blocks is likely to be breastfeeding. We have been told that, while 96 per cent of mothers will begin breastfeeding their baby, the numbers start to drop significantly as the months wear on, and Australia has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world. Only 50 per cent of mothers are exclusively breastfeeding at two months and at six months that figure has dropped to 15 per cent. So what is going wrong? Rowena Gray is a midwife and lactation consultant and the author of a problem solving book about breastfeeding called Born to Breastfeed.
