Ignatz Waghalter was a Polish-German composer and also Jewish. He was born at the end of the 19th Century, and founded the Deutsche Oper (the German opera), was a champion of Puccini and a productive composer. Ignatz Waghalter left Austria just before the Anchluss and arrived in the US where he founded an African American symphony orchestra. He disappeared from public view following his death in 1949. However much of his music has recently come to light and been recorded. Ignatz Waghalter's grandson David Green tells his grandfather's story.
