Care for people with learning disabilities 'failing'

November 26th, 2014

Episode 33 of 1744 episodes

A report commissioned by the NHS has said that the government is continuing to fail those with learning disabilities by keeping them in hospitals far from their homes for too long. After the Winterbourne View scandal which exposed the horrific abuse of patients at the private hospital near Bristol - ministers promised to move those with similar conditions to a community care environment such as a specialist home. But Wednesday’s report by Sir Stephen Bubb, from the charity leaders representative body 'ACEVO ', accuses them of breaking their promise. We speak to reporter Sima Kotecha and Jane Cummings, NHS England’s Chief Nursing Officer.
