August 8th, 2016

Episode 1117 of 1744 episodes

This weekend sees the release of The Shallows, a film about a female surfer stranded on a rock by a great white shark with a vendetta. Film critics have praised it but some marine biologists have said it plays directly into the 'Jaws effect' – stereotyping sharks as enemies of humans. Chair of the London Film Critics Circle Anna Smith and former chairman of the Shark Trust Richard Peirce discussed the merits of the film. (Image: Shark fin. Credit: Getty Images)
