Milk crisis: diary farmer Doug talks about the fall in prices

August 11th, 2015

Episode 538 of 1744 episodes

Dairy farmer Doug gave his perspective on the recent dramatic fall in milk prices: 'we are dependent on the consumer. 'We have very little influence on the price we get.' 'There will come a time when if we don't make ends meet, we'll have to sell up.' When challenged on the subsidies that are received by dairy farmers, Doug responded, 'I'd call it a support payment because we are not just handed the money. There's no automatic subsidy here, you have to earn it.'
