Social Care is at a 'tipping point'

October 13th, 2016

Episode 1254 of 1744 episodes

Social Care is at a "tipping point". Those are the words used by the heath watchdog the Care Quality Commission. Due to an increasing number of elderly people who are turning up at A&E, emergency departments are buckling under the pressure and the Care Quality Commission now has concerns about the safety of two thirds of them. For the first time ever the watchdog has called on the government to put more money into social care. Mike Padgham who runs a care home in Scarborough and chairs the Independent Care Group, and Mike Proctor is Deputy Chief Executive at York Teaching Hospital discuss what measures need to be taken to improve the situation.
