An article in the British Medical Journal today accuses the government of derailing a programme that was intended to cut the amount of salt in our food. It claims that around 6,000 people have died from strokes and heart attacks and those deaths could have been prevented. Graham MacGregor is chairman of Action on Sugar and Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Wolfson Institute is the lead author of the article and Susan Jebb is Professor of Diet and Population Health at Oxford University, and chair of the Public Health Responsibility Deal's Food Network.
