Today on Books+, stories from Nigeria, Cuba, Amsterdam, Britain and the imagined Island of Chaldea. Teju Cole writes about return and what it means to live between Lagos and Brooklyn; while Carlos Acosta is an international ballet dancer who trained in Cuba and is still able to come home. After twenty years of spectacular on-stage leaps, he’s written an exuberant magical realist novel of slavery, blood, revolution and cities. From Amsterdam, a story told from inside a seventeenth century doll's house, in Jessie Burton’s The Miniaturist, while Scottish crime writer Val McDermid retells Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. And finally, English fantasy writer Diana Wynne Jones is the author of Howl's Moving Castle and 33 other books. But her final book The Islands of Chaldea was completed after Diana's death, by her younger sister Ursula Jones.
