We bring you a predominantly Irish bookshelf on Books+ today. John Boyne has written about Ireland for the first time. His A History of Loneliness deals with child sexual abuse by priests, told from the perspective of a good man, a priest himself. Mary Costello's novel Academy Street tells us about Tess, who grows up in Catholic Ireland with an angry and silent father; and at the age of 18 breaks free and goes to New York. Also Margaret Atwood's latest collection of short stories Stone Mattress and Mary Gaunt, an Australian author from the 1890s.
