BSP 91: Jaak Panksepp on the Origins of Emotions

November 30th, 2012

Episode 13 of 61 episodes

Episode 91 of the Brain Science Podcast is an interview with Dr. Jaak Panksepp, author of the pioneering textbook "Affective Neuroscience." In this episode we talk about his latest book "The Archaeology of Mind: Neuroevolutionary Origins of Human Emotions." For decades Dr. Panksepp has been compiling evidence that the primary emotional processes begin in the lower (older) parts of the brain that are shared by all mammals. This latest book updates that evidence. Panksepp's work has the potential to revolutionalize neuroscience, much in the way that the discovery of brain plasticity over turned longstanding assumptions about the brain. Complete show notes and free episode transcripts are available at http://brainsciencepodcast.com. You can send Dr. Campbell email at gincampbell at mac dot com. The music used in this episode is "The Open Door" by Beatnik Turtle.
