Michael Zuckerman is Professor of History Emeritus at University of Pennsylvania. He is in Australia as a visiting fellow at the US Studies Centre at University of Sydney from July to August 2015. His focus throughout his career has been on researching and understanding the American character, American culture and national identity. He's written widely about American life in the 18th and 19th centuries and now teaches courses in popular culture, national culture, human nature and religion at the University of Pennsylvania.
