Episode 203 of 234 episodes

On this week’s Fiction Podcast, Joshua Ferris reads “Going for a Beer,” by Robert Coover, which appeared in the magazine in 2011. The story begins with a simple scene of a man drinking in a bar, then dashes forward in a drunken, eventful rush. It’s all over in about a thousand words. “It just can’t be denied that when you read this piece you can’t stop reading it,” Ferris says in conversation with the magazine’s fiction editor, Deborah Treisman. “It’s like an energy that just barrels over you, and you can’t stop it because it’s so immediate—and really beautiful.”
