The Coranderrk Aboriginal reserve north-east of Melbourne has almost mythic status: a model farm, an enterprise and a community. The dream was freedom from government control and economic independence, to make Coranderrk and its community self-supporting. But the colonial authorities, the Aborigines' Protection Board and local squatters had other ideas.
