Australia has put in place a 'virtually unique' regime to protect professional journalists and their whistleblower sources. Bret Walker is a leading barrister and formerly Australia's first independent National Security Legislation Monitor. He says despite some inherent problems, the new regime for the proposed public interest advocate is 'workable'. The Government's new metadata law passed the Lower House yesterday after a deal was done with the Opposition, and it's expected to pass the Senate next week
