This week on Einstein A Go Go, Dr Andi, Dr Shane and Chris KP focus on the topic of diabetes. Our first guests are from the Centre for Clinical Research Excellence in Clinical Science in Diabetes and the Immunology and Diabetes Unit of St Vincents Institute. They discuss the latest research into the disease, including the potential triggers for the disease such as diet and genetics. We are then joined by our next guest who is a research fellow in Chronic Disease and Indigenous Health also at the Centre for Clinical Research Excellent in Clinical Science in Diabetes focussing on the cultural appropriateness of existing general practice techniques in treating members of the urban indigenous population with Type 2 diabetes. Chris KP gives us a report about the early development of insect repellents and how that coincided with the royal visit in 1963. We also chat about the NASA prize for building a robot to climb a space elevator, the possibility of injection needles being a thing of the past (and an aside about how to score a free teddy bear!) and how babies cry differently as the language of their parents varies.
