Sherlock Holmes Adventures was fictional detective of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who first appeared in publication in 1887. He was devised by British author and doctor Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A brilliant London-based detective, Holmes is famous for his prowess at using logic and astute observation to solve cases. He is perhaps the most famous fictional detective, and indeed one of the best known and most universally recognizable literary characters. k Holmes Rathbone & Bruce 43-08-20 The Missing Dancer Continuing their popularity from the two 1939 Sherlock Holmes movies, The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce assumed the roles on radio beginning later that same year. Their run lasted until May of 1946, when Mr. Rathbone left to pursue the stage in other roles. Few of the wartime episodes exist today, but post-war programs are readily available.
