For those of you who don't know what BASE jumping is here's a breakdown: it's parachuting off of different structures. Those structures fall into one of four categories.B for buildings, A for antennas, S for span (like a bridge) and E for earth (like mountains). In order to be a BASE jumper you must successfully (ie don't die) jump from each of these four structures at least once. Clearly as a world champion in this arena, Alastair knows how to minimize risks and calculate acceptable risk factors. And he's taken that knowledge and brought it into everyday life for everyday people. He helps people find or rediscover their wildest dreams and then bring those dreams to life. On today's episode he talks about his bookPerfect Madness, as well as some of the pillars in his process plusthe 5 action steps we must take to make our impossible dreams possible. The first thing you must do to make your impossible dream possible is to figure out what it is. Ask yourself what you really want and what seems like the craziest, most impossible adventure you can undertake with your life? If you don't come up with an answer right away, meditate on it for awhile. But give yourself a timeframe to findthis impossible dream, and then choose to move forward. Now that you have your dream you have to redefine what's possible and decide what's important to you. To achieve something great you must be willing to believe you CAN. If you don't believe in it, you're sunk even before you've started. And you must also understand there is a price to pay, you will have to give up other things to invest your time, effort and energy into making this dream come true. So decide it's worth it and be willing to do whatever it takes. There are several other components we discuss on the show including the crucial role failure plays in achieving your impossible dream and why the people around you are also crucial to your success. A final bit of wisdom Alastair leaves us with his 5 actionsteps to make a dream reality: In the next hourdecide what to do, decide what your dream is. In the next day write down your dream and read it aloud. The day after that day read it aloud again and doone thing to advance you toward achieving that. Within a week start confirming and commit to it. Tell 5 people what you're doing, make sure they are supportive people! Within 2 weeks break your dream down into chunks and work out how you're going to do this. Now you're well on your way to achieving it!
